Ansonia Baseball stayed in it until the end, but National Trail pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Friday. The game was tied at four with National Trail batting in the top of the eighth when Isaac Arnold singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Ansonia lost despite out-hitting National Trail 14 to seven.
National Trail captured the lead in the second inning when Cayden Clark drew a walk, scoring one run. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ansonia tied things up at four when Trevor Hemmerich doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Arnold earned the win for National Trail. The pitcher lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while walking one. Hemmerich took the loss for the Tigers. Hemmerich surrendered one run on four hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven. Jakob Creager started the game for Ansonia. The lefthander surrendered four runs on three hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Michael Hollingsworth started the game for National Trail. Hollingsworth lasted six and a third innings, allowing ten hits and four runs while striking out seven
Ansonia Tigers Varsity racked up 14 hits in the game. Landyn Bowman, Gabe Zumbrun, Kolton Young, and Jacob Longenecker each managed multiple hits for Ansonia. Ansonia was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.
National Trail totaled seven hits. Burgan Hoffman and Cameron Harrison all managed multiple hits for National Trail. National Trail stole seven bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Watts led the way with two.
